Z4 Solid Gold Ouroboros Ring
Made by Elfin regular, Steve, enquired if he could use two gold rings towards a casting of the Ouroboros ring.
One being 9ct Yellow Gold, the other 9ct Rose Gold. He weighed them and sent the numbers over. I was able to calculate the weight of the ouroboros ring using his ring size and current gold casting cost.
I said yes of course you can use these rings towards casting. In this instance, the ouroboros being a heavy ring, there would still be more gold to be added. I checked he would be happy to pay the excess after presenting a quote.
Once agreed, we met up, and Steve gave me his old rings. I took them to the casters.
Rose Gold was chosen to top up the extra 50% of gold needed to complete the casting.
The Casters do charge extra for using a special flask
This ensures that the gold handed in, is the gold you receive back.
I really enjoyed polishing this one-of-a-kind ring.
When I collected it, I could tell it was a unique tone; not warm enough to be fully Rose Gold. In it's unpolished form, looked like Antique Gold.
Jewellers will tell you the tone changes each time you polish the surface,
morphing in hue with each finer pass. Until the mirror rouge polish reveals it's final colour. Typically silver, yellow, rose or white.
This time, we got peach :)
Can you see the hue changing as it gets progressively smoother....
The Ouroboros ring is a labour intensive piece
Each and every scale gets hand polished multiple times, with a finer tool each time. Producing a ring with the finest finish.
Every ring is verified and stamped by The London Assay Office.
This is your quality guarantee; it proves the metal it's made from, date made, who made it and the location it was verified.
I met up with Steve to deliver his Ring
He was super pleased, which made me super happy!
Many Thanks for trusting me with family jewellery.
Furthermore for choosing a Made By Elfin design to transform it into.
Thank You Steve!
