Vans Store Oxford Street, London

Writer's picture: Isabel WhiteIsabel White

Commissioned by Vans to retail on the busiest shopping street in the world.

This is a dream job. A milestone for me. I've worked with Vans on and off over the years (ie, customising shoes for them in store). This time they wanted artwork from 5 Artists to feature in the reopening of their Oxford Street store.

They asked for examples of work I've already made, mocked up as if printed onto decks (see below). They chose their favourite. This then got prepared for printing and sent to the wonderful Stuart Smith of Love n Skate, who hand screened all artwork onto skate decks.

The artwork they chose was a The Death Tarot card design. I chose a blend of neons from pink thru yellow to green, which mixed together on screen, making each deck printed an original. A limited amount of art prints were made as well.

The night of the opening came, it was terrible weather, cold with sideways rain.

I love Oxford Street at night when it's wet, gives me Blade Runner vibes; one of the many reasons I love London. Anyway the event was great, and so was the turn out. I got to watch skating, drink cocktails, saw D Double C perform live, and generally had a really good time. Thank you Vans!

I made a little video of the event, check that out below. And here's to more jobs like this!

I Currently retail my work at Carnaby Street, Melrose LA, The lower East side NY and now Oxford Street London. I am super pleased, who knew these things were possible.

And if you'd like to buy one of my Decks from Vans head HERE

Thanks for looking

Isabel
